Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africa’s largest and most profitable carrier, announced today that it generated $7.6 billion in revenue during the 2024/25 fiscal year, marking an 8% increase from the previous year. The growth comes despite ongoing global and regional challenges that have disrupted the aviation industry.
At a press conference held in Addis Ababa, Group CEO Mesfin Tasew highlighted the airline’s continued expansion and resilience in the face of geopolitical tensions and operational headwinds. “It was a good performance despite global challenges,” Mesfin stated, citing ongoing conflicts in Sudan, the Middle East, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, along with regulatory changes in the United States that impacted some routes.

During the fiscal year ending July 7, 2025, the airline transported 19 million passengers an 11% increase from 17 million the previous year. This figure includes 15.2 million international travelers and 3.9 million domestic passengers, reflecting robust demand across both markets.
The airline also expanded its fleet with the addition of 13 new aircraft, including its fourth Airbus A350-1000 delivered in July. The Group now operates a fleet of more than 150 aircraft, making it one of the most modern and efficient in Africa.
In addition to fleet expansion, Ethiopian Airlines launched six new international destinations in the 2024/25 fiscal year and continued to strengthen its cargo division. The company is also exploring the procurement of at least 20 regional or small narrow body jets as part of a strategic plan to modernize and expand its domestic operations.
Looking ahead, the airline is preparing for the construction of a new four runway mega airport near Bishoftu, about 45 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa. Once completed in 2029, it will become the largest airport in Africa, significantly enhancing the airline’s global hub capabilities.
Despite engine maintenance delays affecting some of its aircraft an issue faced by many global carriers Ethiopian Airlines remains focused on growth, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

“The results we achieved reflect our commitment to strategic investment, operational excellence, and service quality,” said Mesfin. “We are confident in our continued growth as Africa’s leading airline.”
